1979 - Dixie Electric President, Gene Flash along with another partner , started an electrical contracting company called D & F Electric, Inc., located in a small warehouse in downtown New Iberia, Louisiana. A few years later, Gene decided to part from D & F for another business opportunity.
1984 - A silent investor purchased the original partners stock. The business moved to its present location at the Port of Iberia and was renamed Dixie Electric, Inc.. This teaming effort afforded Dixie to open another location in Gulf Shores, Alabama. As the business developed there, the strong business relationships were nurtured in Louisiana that are still maintained today.
1987 - Gene's purchased the investor's stock allowing him to have full ownership of the company. Total focus was devoted to the business in Louisiana, while the Alabama customer bas was turned over to another business entity.
1992 - The devastation of Hurricane Andrew was felt for years to follow, increasing the work load by 100%. It yielded the company's customer base to grow, while strengthening the existing ties.
1993 - Gene transferred partial ownership to his two sons and a long time employee. In the years that followed the company invested its time and money in a continuous growth pace that is still going on today, with the expansion of the equipment fleet and facility.
2000 - Dixie Electric added 1,800 square feet of office space, 7,500 square feet of shop space, along with 6,750 square feet of covered parking garages for trucks and equipment, a new equipment wash down rack with a reclaiming system and a new fuel island. Dixie Electric has grown from a two man organization to one that employs over 32 people.
